Woodlawn Sports

Every Monday evening from 5:30-7:30 a group of about 40 young boys from the Eastlake and Woodlawn communities gather for flag football and basketball. This gathering is headed up by a guy from Eastlake, Dave Anderson, who has been doing sports outreach with young boys from these areas for about 10 years.

We meet at the Willow Wood Recreation Center just behind Woodlawn High School and play ball, have a good devotional, and share some snacks. This is an awesome opportunity to build relationships with boys who desperately need some male role models, so if sports is your thing or even if not and you would just like to help, come out Monday night!

One of the great needs in Woodlawn is for the children and youth to have positive role models in their lives.  Among the young men in particular, opportunity to address this dire need can often begin through sports.  Over the past 2 years, RCC has built a strong partnership with a preexisting sports ministry in the community and we have recently had the opportunity to take on full responsibility for it.  Every Monday evening, a group of boys from the surrounding communities gather at a local rec center to play sports, learn from the Bible, and share some snacks.  The goal is for these relationships to grow and flourish beyond just the Monday night outreach and develop into individual mentorships.  This is a fantastic opportunity to build relationships with these young men who desperately need some male role models and to speak the Gospel into their lives.
